Frequently Asked Questions
What is a healthcare advocate?
A healthcare advocate, or patient advocate assists, educates, and supports patients and families so they are able to make appropriate healthcare decisions for their specific situation (as defined by The Washington State Health Advocacy Association). Haven Healthcare Advocates are medical professionals that will assist you in managing all aspects of your healthcare. Your advocate takes your needs and goals into account to create a care plan best suited for your individual situation.
Since you are an RN, can you provide me with medical advice?
Haven Healthcare Advocates do not provide medical advice, diagnose, nor prescribe. We provide resources and help guide decisions, but ultimately decisions are up to you. We work within the scope of a healthcare advocate’s practice.
What are your fees?
Your initial consultation is free. The next step is to complete an intake assessment which includes diving deeper into your medical history, obtaining necessary medical records, and exploring goals. Once the intake assessment is complete, a care plan is formulated that meets the needs and goals of all parties. Fees are charged at an hourly rate or a monthly retainer depending on needs and preferences.
Don't hospitals and insurance companies provide these services for free?
In some instances, yes; however, as a private advocate, your wellbeing and best interest will be our sole focus. We will take the time necessary to make sure your goals are achieved. Your health is our number one priority.
How do you protect your clients' privacy and health information?
All information you share with Haven Healthcare Advocates is confidential. We respect your privacy and will only request access to information that is relevant to our advocacy work. Appropriate measures are in place, physically and electronically, to protect your confidential information. All interactions between Client and Advocate are confidential, excepting those persons specifically identified, and in compliance with Advocate’s legal obligation under state and federal law.
Can you drive your clients to their appointments?
Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover transportation of clients. We will however, happily facilitate transportation as needed and requested. Our goal is to reduce your healthcare burden wherever possible.
Do you work with out of state clients?
If COVID-19 has taught us anything, it is that most of us can work remotely. While we value the importance of face-to-face contact, we can certainly assist out of state clients. For more information, please book a complimentary consult.
What don’t we do?
We do not provide home healthcare or offer medical, financial, or legal advice. We can provide and secure the resources necessary for those tasks, but we do not provide them directly.
